It is a proud time the be a Beta Omega Sig. We had the largest pledge class of any fraternity on campus, a financially successful semester, parties for the storybooks and new plans for the house to look forward to.
Before we go too far into the semester the entire chapter would like to thank our alumni for their donations, participation and contributions that made the first half of the year easier and more enjoyable.
Our semi-annual wine and cheese event featured a well stocked bar generously donated by brother Beveridge. Thanks to his contributions the chapter didn't need to suffer the cost of the party, and instead had more money for food, allowing us to hire a chef. More recently, brother Beveridge donated a deck that will be installed this summer outside the large basement windows of the house. Though these are only two of the many things he does to keep the house running, we would like to take the chance to thank him for his generosity and constant vigil for us as a chapter.
Brother Wagner is another of our more engaged alumnus brothers who brings a party with him whenever he stops by. Were it not for him, the house wouldn't be as much fun as it is. We had Wagner to thank for the “elves and Santa” crashing the semi-formal armed with toys and booze for everyone. Picture a quiet dinner party with roast beef, vegetables and Frank Sinatra being disrupted by a gang of already drunk people dressed up as elves. You probably get the picture. Anyway the night was fantastic for those who can remember it, and we have Jeff to thank.
Aside from brothers who live in Toronto, we were privileged enough to have a visit from Significant Sig Sam Haskell, who stopped to give a talk about his recent book Promises I made my mother. We were also happy to briefly welcome Grand Consul Wayne Tucker to our library before the annual alumni banquet this December.
We are always grateful for our alumni being involved but we can't forget the efforts put forward by our undergraduates. Brother Preisman, our recruitment chair, was the guiding force behind the recruitment we are all so glad to brag about.
Likewise, brother Yazdani and brother Vandezande made sure that on Thursdays and Fridays there was always loud music and a party for anyone showing up. The Meat Raffle and Fratty Fridays (formerly Friday Night Keg Fight), organized by Yazdani and Vandezande respectively, will rage on into the new year once classes resume.
Our annual graffiti party was yet another shining success. We made roughly $2400 in profits and plan for another party of similar proportion in the next semester.
Our brothers have all finished their exams and are mostly home for the holidays, but there are usually a few brothers around the house. Our doors are always open to any Sigma Chi. If you aren't one of us, we are constantly searching for men of good character with fair academic ability. You must be ambitious and have strong morals. Being congenial is essential as well as having a high sense of honour and a deep sense of personal responsibility.
Wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year, In Hoc Signo Vinces brothers.
