What is Pledgeship?

Once a prospective brother has accepted a Bid of Pledgeship, he is formally considered a Pledge of Sigma Chi. Unlike those portrayed in movies, pledges are held in the highest regard and are the future of our organization. During this period, the prospective brother will attend pledge class (usually weekly) which is led by the Magister (ma-gee-stir) who is the Pledge Teacher. By the guidance of the Magister, the prospective brother will learn about Sigma Chi and its values.

Pledges are encouraged to participate in all chapter activities during their pledgeship. These generally include philanthropic events such as fundraisers, brotherhood events such as a BBQ or lock-in, and informal gatherings of brothers. There is also usually a pledge road trip every term, where the pledges are encouraged to join the brothers to visit one or more other Sigma Chi Chapters. Most recently we visited Miami, Florida.

The pledge period culminates with initiation where you formally become a brother of Sigma Chi.
